Goals

Our department is committed to developing students' general English language skills, vocabulary as well as awareness and understanding of different English-speaking cultures around the world. We offer students the opportunity to explore the English language and cultures through classic and contemporary literature along with other means like websites, videos, magazines etc. Lessons taught at Collège du Sud will give students the English skills they need to communicate with everyone from employers to college professors as well as the ability to write job applications and papers at the necessary level for higher education.

Methods and Offers

To reach these goals, hard work is not only required within the classroom, but students are also offered contact with our English language assistant and are encouraged to study abroad, in order to experience English-speaking cultures first-hand. Other activities such as the movie club and the weekly English lunch allow students to practise their English in a relaxed atmosphere. Finally, there are opportunities reaching beyond high school like preparation classes for the First Certificate Exam and IELTS.

Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become. C.S. Lewis
